Virginia DOE’s School Quality Profiles Website

Legislation mandated that the VDOE create a stand-alone School Progress Report Cards website to replace The School Report Card. The site needed to incorporate specific data points collected by the agency including attendance, on-time graduation rates, and teacher quality and create a better school report card system that communicates to parents about the quality of Virginia public education.

After conducting thorough needs assessment and discovery sessions with VDOE, we created UX Prototypes for the search and reporting screens, focusing on mobile-first usability. We created data visualizations through animated, SVG programming to dynamically serve up and filter through the data in an easy-to-use, visual format. The User Interface was customized for each device size to optimize the features and screen real estate available to each device. The site is undergoing development in PHP, will be 508-compliant, follow all the Commonwealth Standards and uses web services from VDOE to update the data in real-time.
