ICNL Website & Microsites

ICNL works to improve the legal environment for civil society, philanthropy, and public participation around the world.

ICNL is a nonprofit that works to improve the legal environment for civil society, philanthropy, and public participation around the world. We helped ICNL redesign, re-architect and develop their more than 5,000-page website that is packed with legal resources from countries around the world. We achieved the goal of creating a modern, interactive, and informative website that emphasizes ICNL’s resources and clearly communicates ICNL’s key messages.

The website redesign included elements such as a custom WordPress theme, multiple content types and templates, custom shortcodes, SVG design, an interactive map and multiple search options and filters to help visitors find the resources they need.

Site programming included deep content mapping, completely revamped information architecture, 508-compliance and SEO-focused architecture. After the initial website launch, we designed and built custom feature areas like the U.S. Protest Law Tracker map, the USPLT interactive visualization, the COVID-19 Civic Freedom Tracker and its corresponding interactive visualization.

Since the launch of the new site, the average session duration has increased by 32%, with 208% more pageviews by returning visitors. Organic search visitors grew by 109%, direct visits (brand awareness) are up by 102%, referring websites have increased by 46%, and social media visitors grew by 139%.
